Love Me Tender at County Museum

A classic train movie in honor of Train Days

“Love Me Tender,” a classic movie of romance, railroads, and robbery, will be shown at the San Bernardino County Museum on Friday, April 28. This #FOMO Friday event, from 7 to 9 p.m., celebrates the museum’s Train Days, which start on April 22 and continue through Sunday, April 30 (closed Monday). The movie will be accompanied by a signature cocktail and snacks. Guests are welcome to dress in their midcentury threads in honor of Elvis, third on the bill behind Richard Egan and Debra Paget in this, his first movie.

“This was Elvis Presley’s debut on the silver screen,” said Maggie Latimer, the Museum Association’s executive director. “We selected the film for our Train Days-themed FOMO Friday because it has a historical railroad theme. But although it’s a Civil War story, it has a midcentury modern mindset that fits right in with the museum’s current special exhibit, ‘Visions of Southern California.’ And, of course, Elvis singing ‘Love Me Tender’ will bring tears to everyone’s eyes.”

#FOMO Fridays are a series of casual, after-work evening events that capitalize on the “fear of missing out.” Love Me Tender is free for Museum Association members and $10 per nonmember. Limited tickets are available; call the Museum Association at (909) 798-8625 for details. Love Me Tender will be cancelled in case of rain.

The San Bernardino County Museum’s exhibits of regional cultural and natural history and the Museum’s other exciting events and programs reflect the effort by the Board of Supervisors to achieve the Countywide Vision by celebrating arts, culture, and education in the county, creating quality of life for residents and visitors.

The San Bernardino County Museum is at 2024 Orange Tree Lane, at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. General admission is $10 (adult), $8 (military or senior), $7 (student), and $5 (child aged 5 to 12).
