JACK BLACK HELPS “BEAT THE ODDS” AT RENAL SUPPORT NETWORK’S 5TH ANNUAL CELEBRITY CHARITY POKER TOURNAMENT

Glendale, CA (November 13, 2014) –Actor/Comedian Jack Black showed up in full cowboy style, with dark sunglasses, ready to take the house down at Renal Support Network’s 5th Annual “Beat the Odds” Celebrity Charity Texas Hold-em Poker Tournament, Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the Glendale Civic Auditorium in Glendale, CA. At the end of the evening, the top three winners were Matt Cauble (first place), Rick Foster (second place) and Harvey Wells (third place). All of the winners have a direct connection to someone who has chronic kidney disease, but Harvey has a successful kidney transplant and is a living example that people with kidney disease can beat the odds.

Black, who has been the tournament’s special guest every year since it began, was joined by a crowd of celebrities supporting the charity. ABC Eyewitness News Anchor and kidney donor Phillip Palmer was this year’s Master of Ceremonies. The successful event drew close to 200 people.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to further RSN’s mission and to make the 16th Annual Renal Teen Prom, “Sea of Dreams”, a reality. The Renal Teen Prom is a special event for teenagers who have kidney disease. This year it is set for January 2015 at the Glendale Hilton.

RSN Founder and President Lori Hartwell noted, “We so appreciate Jack Black’s support and the support of our many celebrity guests, who make this event great fun while helping us raise awareness about chronic kidney disease and organ donation.” To view photos of the night and the celebrities who attended visit www.RSNhope.org/poker.

RSN would also like to thank the Celebrity Charity Tournament sponsors who helped make the event a success: DaVita, U.S. Renal Care, National Renal Administrators Association, Fresenius Medical Care, One Legacy and Rusnak Pasadena Bentley Auto Group.

RSN is a nonprofit organization that provides nonmedical services to those affected by chronic kidney disease. You can find us on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest and learn more at www.rsnhope.org.
