4/21/2014 - New Cancer Treatment and Infusion Center Opening This Summer

“When you hear the word cancer, it can be devastating, and leave you feeling quite lost and bewildered,” expressed Ukiah Valley Medical Center Chief Executive Officer, Gwen Matthews. Matthews continued to say, “Most people you ask either have a direct relation or know someone whose life was affected by a cancer diagnoses.”

“As we launch the construction of our Emergency Room, Trauma Center, and Intensive Care Unit, we want to ensure that care is provided in spaces that promote healing and well-being. We knew we must do that for our cancer patients as well and found the ideal setting on the second floor of our Rural Health Clinic. It provides beautiful vistas of our eastern mountains with plenty of natural light,” conveyed Matthews.

Rusell I. Hardy, M.D., oncologist who has been providing care to community members with cancer also shared, “I think the biggest plus of the new infusion center is the larger, more open space with a view of the Ukiah Valley. Another feature is the increased room that allows family members or friends to accompany patients.” Angle Slater, RN, oncology nurse navigator echoed Dr. Hardy’s comments, “I know this new space is going to be a real benefit to our community and patients. Having a larger space will give staff and patients freedom to move and it will allow us to increase the programming and services we have to offer.”

The Cancer Treatment and Infusion Center will be located at the Ukiah Valley Rural Health Center at 260 Hospital Drive in Ukiah and is expected to open this July.
