History Program at Yucaipa Adobe

How do older technologies stack up against today’s electronic gadgetry? Find out in an interactive presentation, “How Did They Use That,” with San Bernardino County Museum Curator of History Michele Nielsen at the Yucaipa Adobe on Friday, January 27 at 1:00 p.m. The presentation is free.

"In our daily lives, we do many of the same things people did in the past, we just use different equipment or use electricity instead of human or animal power, said Nielsen. "It's easy to say our modern way is better, but we have to remember that people of the past had successful, fulfilling lives even before the advent of microwave popcorn and robotic vacuum cleaners!"

"Try your hand a making a tasty treat, and even explore written communication without the use of your cell phone or personal computer,” Nielsen continued. “Since we are meeting at the Yucaipa Adobe, we also have a great opportunity to explore a quaint artifact called an horno, a beehive-shaped oven. Its looks are deceiving, as it has a few tricks to it. Come and learn how this efficient piece of technology actually cooks food."

The Yucaipa Adobe is a San Bernardino County Museum historic site at 32183 Kentucky Street in Yucaipa. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org.
