1/19/2012 - 260 More Than Just a Magic Constant

260 is a significant number. It is known as the magic constant of the normal magic square (the size of an actual chess board). It was also a significant number in the Mayan Calendar and reflected the number of days in their year. 260 is also the address of the Ukiah Valley Rural Health Center on Hospital Drive.

According to Kathleen Cervantes, director of nutritional services at Ukiah Valley Medical Center, 260 is taking on a whole new meaning. “We’re opening a new sandwich and barista bar called Café 260 which will open for business on January 23 at the UVRHC at 260 Hospital Drive.” Cervantes went on to say, “Café 260 is helping to fulfill our mission by providing healthy food options. Our doors are open to patients, employees, and the community five days per week.”

Diane Zucker, local community member from the Wagonseller neighborhood in Ukiah, said, “I can’t wait for the café to open, I already love the food in UVMC’s cafeteria and am looking forward to the fresh sandwich, salad and juice options.”

“Some of the healthy food options available will be a daily special Panini, other specialty sandwiches, flavorful smoothies, fresh juices, and daily-made salads,” said Chef Jim Stuart of UVMC. “We’re also supporting local business and will be using them as vendors, for example Schat’s Bakery breads, Calistoga Roastery, Oco Time and others. Café 260 patrons can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and casual healthy dining experience,” said Stuart.

To have your own culinary taste bud celebration, check out Café 260 after its opening on January 23 at 260 Hospital Drive in Ukiah. The sandwich and barista bar will be open Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
