7/17/2010 - Party with the Moon at the Museum
It is time to “moon party” at the San Bernardino County Museum on Saturday, July 17 where members of the San Bernardino Valley Amateur Astronomers will be setting up their telescopes for the public to view the gibbous moon. Starting at 8pm, this event is free to the public. “This party will feature a first-quarter moon phase,” said Chris Clarke, program coordinator for the San Bernardino Valley Amateur Astronomers. “Appearing ‘half-full,’ the features seen along the terminator (the sunrise line) will jump out in three-dimensional splendor. Some of the best crater, valley and lava flow detail are exhibited at this lighting angle. Also visible will be Saturn, showing its famous rings at a very slight angle.” Several sizes and types of telescopes will be set up by club members, ranging from refractors to reflectors to ‘compound’ optics. This is a wonderful opportunity for the public to see two of the most visually stunning objects in the heavens through a variety of telescopes. The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. Parking is free. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org. The San Bernardino County Museum is accessible to persons with disabilities.
