1/12/2010 - Adventist Medical Center Honors Robin Medford With 2009 P.R.A.I.S.E. Award
"Robin is a shining example of why we honor an employee every year through the President's Recognition Award for Inspirational Service Excellence award," said Russell. "On a daily basis, Adventist Health's employees give their all to provide top quality, compassionate care to the ill. Robin went beyond this duty, touching not only the life of her patient, but inspiring all of us at Adventist Health." Medford was selected for Adventist Health's 2009 PRAISE award based on her commitment to providing quality medical care that exceeded expectations. During 2009, she took it upon herself to help a woman diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease, whose condition was significantly deteriorating. The patient had reached a stage where she was unable to prepare meals or conduct normal activities due to her medical condition. Her problems were compounded by the fact that she had no money, no insurance and had not yet qualified for Medicaid or Medicare. Witnessing the patient’s rapid deterioration between visits, Medford visited the patient’s home after work to assist in any way possible. She brought food, fed her, bathed her, and cleaned her clothing. For two months, Medford cared for the patient every evening, recruiting her husband and several co-workers to assist as well. Additionally, Medford worked with AMC to obtain a hospital bed and a wheel chair to help make the patient more comfortable until she passed away. "Robin's selfless acts of compassionate care embody Adventist Health's mission. We are very proud of her work and could not be more pleased to present her with this award," said Russell.
