4/1/2009 - Redlands Chamber Music SocietyREDLANDS CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY Naima Ford Love classical music? Looking for high quality chamber music? Want to introduce the next generation to both? Then the annual concert series of the Redlands Chamber Music Society is just what you are seeking. While the Inland Empire boasts three symphonies, a chamber music society is a rare asset in the region. The next nearest chamber music societies are in Palm Springs and Pasadena. Chamber music is a form of classical music written for a small group of instruments, which traditionally could be accommodated in a palace chamber. The intimacy of chamber music makes it a special experience. According to Redlands Chamber Music Society Board President Mark Braunstein, “We’re introducing young people and adults to classical music of the highest standard.” The all-volunteer-run Redlands Chamber Music Society, which gives five main concerts a year, is building a younger audience for classical music by offering free tickets to music students. Receptions at the home of a board member follow each concert. They are free and open to all concertgoers, affording the opportunity to meet the artists and fellow music lovers. A fundraising concert is held annually in September. The artists are known internationally (and some have strong ties to Redlands and the Inland Empire) particularly the young, emerging performers who are showcased in a special concert every spring. This season, solo pianist Michael Noble will perform on March 15th. A talented concert pianist who grew up in the Inland Empire, Michael graduated from the Idyllwild Arts Academy and now is pursuing his piano performance at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. The Redlands Chamber Music Society was formed at the conclusion of the Mackett Chamber Music Series, which held concerts in Prospect Park until 2005. The board is composed primarily of music educators, performers, and Redlands classical music lovers. They include Mary Jane Auerbacher, Art and Adrianne Gram, Dave Cohn, Sue and Dave Lawrence, and John Goltz. The remaining concerts in the Redlands Chamber Music Society’s concert series this season are the Emerging Artists program featuring pianist Michael Noble, performing Debussy, Chopin and Scriabin, March 15; and Cecilia String Quartet, presenting Haydn, Schubert and Janacek, April 19. All performances are 4:00 p.m. at the Frederick Loewe Performance Hall at the University of Redlands. Tickets are $20 for individual concerts, and music students are free. Season ticket prices for the 2009 to 2010 season are $80. For information about the Redlands Chamber Music Society, call 909/748-7528 or 909/798-9253.
