1/1/2009 - Daniel Rodriguez – America’s Singing Policeman

DANIEL RODRIGUEZ – America’s Singing Policeman

Robert Soderblum

The nation, yes, the world knows him as the tenor who lifted the spirit of America in the wake of the September 11 tragedies. Immortalized forever at that time as the “singing policeman,” Daniel Rodriguez continues to uplift hearts and minds with his incredible voice and showmanship. “Daniel Rodriguez was born with a beautiful tenor voice. His success is a source of great joy to me because he truly deserves it” says Maestro Placido Domingo.

Daniel Rodriguez will be in concert performing a wide variety of vocal masterworks on Saturday evening, March 7, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. at Loma Linda University Church. The public is invited. This extraordinary concert is sponsored by the Loma Linda University School of Medicine Alumni Association. Joining Mr. Rodriguez will be the awesome soprano soloist Laurie Gayle Stephenson. Ms. Stephenson starred on Broadway as Christine Daae in Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s Phantom of the Opera for two years. Laurie was an original cast member of The Music of Andrew Lloyd-Webber in Concert.

At age 16, Daniel presented his first recital at Carnegie Hall; a year later, he was billed as the “17-year old Baritone.” Then, at age 19, he put music aside to raise his family...any job that would put food on the table: short order cook, catering chef, cab driver, truck driver; on to NYC policeman. Five years later, Mayor Rudolph Giuliani introduced him to Maestro Placido Domingo and insisted Daniel take time off to study under the Maestro in Washington, D.C. This was Daniel’s privilege for 1½ years.

Since 9/11 and his stirring rendition of “God Bless America”, he has performed at the 2002 Winter Olympics, the Tournament of Roses Parade, the 2004 Republican National Convention, President Bush’s “Celebration of Freedom” Inauguration concert, as well as on David Letterman, Larry King Live, and Oprah. He officially retired from the NYPD in June 2004.

The public is invited to be a part of this memorable concert by two amazing

vocal artists. Tickets go on sale January 2, 2009, and can be purchased by calling 909/558-7193.
