1/7/2009 - St. Helena Hospital Announces Leadership ChangeJoAline Olson, president/CEO of St. Helena Hospital for the past 11 years, has been named vice president of clinical innovation for the hospital’s parent healthcare system Adventist Health. Terry Newmyer of Florida Hospital will be the new president/CEO of St. Helena Hospital and its sister facilities, St. Helena Hospital Clearlake in Lake County and the St. Helena Center for Behavioral Health in Vallejo. The leadership change takes effect in early February. “It has been an honor and privilege to lead our hospitals and serve our communities,” Olson said. “I am excited that I will still be able to support our organization locally and across three states in a different role.” During Olson’s 20-year tenure in several leadership positions, St. Helena Hospital achieved status as one of the nation’s Top 100 Heart Hospitals and earned many awards for quality, patient and physician satisfaction. Under Olson’s leadership a new Emergency Care Center was constructed, and the Center for Behavioral Health was acquired to expand mental health services to adolescents and children across northern California. Recently, a five-phase master plan was developed to renew the 130-year-old St. Helena campus. As part of phase one, a $30 million cancer center and outpatient surgery pavilion will open in fall 2009, creating the first comprehensive cancer treatment center in the North Bay. In her new role, Olson will be based in St. Helena and responsible for spearheading innovations at St. Helena Hospital that can be replicated at other Adventist Health facilities. This includes overseeing the new Martin O’Neil Cancer Center, implementing a broad patient experience initiative, and working with the St. Helena Center for Health to further develop destination, preventive health and wellness programs that attract clients from around the world. Olson also will lead a system-wide effort to improve philanthropic efforts at all 18 Adventist Health hospitals. “We are pleased that JoAline has accepted this new position for the Adventist Health system. Her past experience as both a patient care executive and president/CEO will bring a wealth of insight and expertise as we redesign the patient experience and leverage our Adventist heritage of health and wellness,” said Scott Reiner, senior vice president of Adventist Health. Terry Newmyer, St. Helena Hospital’s new president/CEO, has held key roles at Florida Hospital in Orlando, the largest hospital in the country. He led a $100 million campaign while serving as chief development officer of the hospital foundation and secured alliances worth over $90 million with companies such as Walt Disney World, GE, Philips, and Nike as the hospital’s senior vice president for business development. “Terry is a very dedicated leader who has demonstrated a real passion for high-quality, mission-driven health care. He brings a diversified portfolio of experience in areas of growth and development that can capitalize on the unique Napa Valley marketplace,” Reiner said.
