9/20/2007 - Fit for Life - VO2max Update - Lisa Hellie, MA Experience Relationship Manager

Are you ready to check your VO2max? Several of our clients have done just that during the past 6 months achieving good to superior results! All are fascinated with the process and the significance of the information received as a result of the testing.
You might be wondering what VO2max is exactly. VO2max is defined as the highest rate at which oxygen can be taken in and used during high intensity dynamic exercise. When you are exercising aerobically, each and every muscle contraction requires oxygen to break down fats, carbohydrates, and protein. This aerobic process provides the energy (ATP) needed to fuel the muscles for movement to occur.
VO2max values differ from individual to individual. Factors such as age, health, activity levels, training programs, and genetics all affect VO2max. A sedentary person has a VO2max of around 20 ml of oxygen per kilogram of body weight per minute of exercise. A highly trained endurance athlete can have a VO2max of 70 ml/kg/min.
During your next One day you can enjoy knowing just where your level of fitness is. Best of all, we can prescribe a more personalized routine to help you reach new heights of fitness.
